Graphic Novel Review of Beauty and the Beast by Jessica Gunderson and Illustrated by Thais Damião

Read for: Graphic Novel/ Requested Review/ Netgalley

Synopsis: "Revisit the tale of Beauty and the Beast. Beauty's father gets lost in the woods and stumbles onto a castle. He reaches for a rose to bring to his daughter--but there's a price. Will Beauty win her freedom, or be trapped in the Beast's castle forever?"

My Review:  Beauty and the Beast is one of my all time favorite fairy tales and of course Disney movies. I really enjoyed this graphic novel adaptation of the story. It combined some elements from the original story along with some elements from the more popular and common Disney version. Gunderson also added some diversity to the story. It is definitely meant for a younger audience, I think kids from 6-8 would really enjoy it. There isn't a lot of text on the pages, and the illustrations are simple and bold with a more standard panel format to assist younger readers with following the story. There were also great follow up activities at the end of the book, including discussion questions, writing prompts and craft projects.

My Rating: This is great adaptation of the story we are all so familiar with, I love the blend of some of the variation of the Beauty and the Beast story. I also enjoyed the unique take with the illustrations.  I give it a rating of Three Paws.

I received a complimentary copy of this book via Netgalley. The above is my honest review and opinion.
