Synopsis: "Choose: A quick death…Or slow poison...
About to be executed for murder, Yelena is offered an extraordinary reprieve. She'll eat the best meals, have rooms in the palace—and risk assassination by anyone trying to kill the Commander of Ixia.
And so Yelena chooses to become a food taster. But the chief of security, leaving nothing to chance, deliberately feeds her Butterfly's Dust—and only by appearing for her daily antidote will she delay an agonizing death from the poison.
As Yelena tries to escape her new dilemma, disasters keep mounting. Rebels plot to seize Ixia and Yelena develops magical powers she can't control. Her life is threatened again and choices must be made. But this time the outcomes aren't so clear..."
My Review: Okay I know this book is predictable, you can see what major twists the plot is going to take but for some reason you still get totally absorbed into this book! I couldn't put it down!! The style really reminds me of The Song of the Lioness Series by Tamora Pierce and also a touch of Fire by Kristin Cashore. You can't help but fall for the characters and root for them through out the book. Yelena is a great character and so is Valek, but I also loved the sub-characters, especially Ari and Janco. I am really disappointed that it took me this long to start this series, I am blaming all of you for not smacking me in the face with it ;)

My Rating: Considering I stayed up until 2am knowing Munchkin would wake me up by 6am just to finish this book how could I give it any less than a Four Paw and a Stump Wag rating?!
