Review of Fire Study by Maria V. Snyder

Synopsis: "When word that Yelena is a Soulfinder—able to capture and release souls—spreads like wildfire, people grow uneasy. Already Yelena's unusual abilities and past have set her apart. As the Council debates Yelena's fate, she receives a disturbing message: a plot is rising against her homeland, led by a murderous sorcerer she has defeated before....

Honor sets Yelena on a path that will test the limits of her skills, and the hope of reuniting with her beloved spurs her onward. Her journey is fraught with allies, enemies, lovers and would-be assassins, each of questionable loyalty. Yelena will have but one chance to prove herself—and save the land she holds dear."

My Review: Compared to the previous three (2 full length and 1 novella) books in the series, Fire Study was kind of a meeh for me. I was honestly getting a little sick of Yelena's attitude and her must rescue the world on her own mentality. Another reviewer put it perfectly 'there is too much going on without anything really going on'. I don't want to spoil the book for anyone but a lot of the same things happen again and again and again throughout the book and you would expect the characters to smarten up a little. There was a little surprise at the end as to who is who though so I guess that made up for it. I really feel that this is a good end to the series and maybe just a couple of novellas to peek in on our favorite characters, especially Janco, Ari, Valek and Kiki. Maybe some happy times would be nice.

My Rating: I hate that this was a little bit of a disappointment.  I really do adore the characters and maybe that is why, I think I wanted a little bit of down time for them.  The next couple of Novellas look good and the branch off Glass series looks like a good place to go as I really liked Opal and want to know more about her.  I give this one a rating of Three Paws.
