Beginning Reader Review of Just Critters Who Care by Mercer Mayer

Read for: Early Reader Challenge

Synopsis: "When Little Critter® finds out one of his neighbors is in need, he and his friends rally together and volunteer their help. They soon learn community service is rewarding . . . and fun! Who can the Critters help next?"

My Review: This is a great little critter book. It is a little more advanced than most pre-level books but that seems to be the norm for Little Critter books. The story though is fantastic, it will teach young readers about not judging others, kindness, charity and volunteering. Munchkin really enjoyed this one and pointed out to me that he helps our elderly neighbors with their yard and shoveling.

My Rating: This might be one of my favorite Beginning reader book this year, not so much for the reading itself but for the message in the story. I give this one a rating of Four Paws!

  1. This sounds like a fun book with a great message! Love that! I'll see if my library has it. I hope it isn't too advanced for my Gnome.

    1. It is really a fantastic message, I don't think it will be too advanced to read with her, she probably won't be able to read everything but there are definitely plenty of simple words and sentences.
