Advent Reads Day 18: Holidays on Ice by David Sedaris

Synopsis: "David Sedaris’s beloved holiday collection is new again with six more pieces, including a never before published story. Along with such favorites as the diaries of a Macy’s elf and the annals of two very competitive families, are Sedaris’s tales of tardy trick-or-treaters (“Us and Them”); the difficulties of explaining the Easter Bunny to the French (“Jesus Shaves”); what to do when you’ve been locked out in a snowstorm (“Let It Snow”); the puzzling Christmas traditions of other nations (“Six to Eight Black Men”); what Halloween at the medical examiner’s looks like (“The Monster Mash”); and a barnyard secret Santa scheme gone awry (“Cow and Turkey”)."

My Review: I was expecting a fall over laughing collection of funny stories about the holidays, while occasionally I did chuckle, a lot of times it was just uncomfortable to read. A few of the stories worked really well for me, the Macy's Elf and Six to Eight Black Men, but for the most part I could have skipped most of the stories and been better off. You definitely need a very particular sense of humor for this story and maybe already have a firm understanding about the author. Not one for me unfortunately.

My Rating: I enjoy snarky, people hating comedy but this one took it a step or two too far and it was no longer funny. I give it a rating of One Paw and a Stump Wag.
