Pen to Paper: Little Gifts to send to Pen Pals

I am getting a little bit of a late start with things today, but I made it! So today I wanted to talk about things to put inside your pen pal letters.  This is NOT a requirement, but it is something people enjoy and it gives your pen pals a little bit more of a peek into what you like too.  I usually try to include one or two little goodies in my pen pal letters, they are all small and inexpensive but still appreciated.  The key is to keep them small so they will still fit in an envelope and be flat enough to send out with a stamp or two.

Some of my favorite things to include:
Postcards from a recent vacation or museum visit
bookmarks
stickers
washi tape samples
tea bags
journaling cards
diecuts
sticky notes or mini note pads
fun paper clips (my favorite to send)

I usually include one or two but no more than three of these in a letter because it will then get too bulky, especially if it is a long letter.

Other ideas:
A music play list
vintage or country specific stamps
book reading recommendation list
something hand made
recipes
a small trinket from a vacation
a little piece of candy or chocolate (beware of sending these in the hot summer)
Drink mixes
Travel guides or maps from your location or country

So what are you favorite things to send or receive with your letters?

  1. I love this idea! I want to start letter writing. You have inspired me! I have been looking all over for some stationary paper I like! It is HARD!! Where do you get yours? I would like A5 size, lined, with a cute graphic. Where did you get the cute doggie one in your picture?

    1. Yay! I am so glad you have decided to start writing letters! It is hard to find cute stationery! I received the Corgi paper as a gift but I get most of mine from Etsy (go to Home & Living, Paper & Party Supplies, Stationery and then either writing paper or stationery to browse or if you want something specific you can search it ie. Cute dog stationery). Sometimes you can find some paper in craft stores too, Hobby Lobby has some cute stuff. I have also found some in card stores like Hallmark or The Paper Store but the selection is very limited.
