Lets Get Personal: An Obsession

So it is time again for me to share a little bit about myself with all of you.  I was going to do a Christmas craft post but figured I better not because someone might see their gift!  So instead I decided to talk a little bit about a tiny (hahaha) obsession of mine.

What could I possibly be obsessed about other than books and family?!

Well football of course!! Now when I say football, I mean American football, as in NFL, for those of you thinking the other football and getting excited (meaning you Jenny).

Yup, I love football, and as far as I know, I always have loved football.  My mom has a picture of me at probably about 6 months old with a toy football in my hands.  Not only have I always been a football fan, but I have always been a Minnesota Vikings fan.  I have been cheering for the Vikings through all the bad years, good years (though sadly never in the super bowl), and stayed a fan even with disappointments.

A few years ago I finally got the opportunity to go to a game (its hard to get to them when you live a couple thousand miles from your team) and I got to share the experience with my dad (and mom and husband too of course) who really got me into football.  It was a great experience and one I can't wait to have again.

So my love for football has expanded beyond just the Vikings in the last 15 years.  My family started doing picks many years ago.  We would all pick who would win all the games of the week and whoever won got to have all the loosers do a chore for them.  That tradition has continued and now my hubby has gotten involved.  There is some serious smack talk that goes down via text messages and phone calls between us all!

And last year I took the plunge into fantasy football.  I honestly thought it would lessen my love for the game, boy was I wrong!! If anything it has increased my love for football and turned it into an almost unhealthy obsession!  We had a baby shower to go to this last Sunday, and of course we were late, but it wasn't because of getting out of the house with a new baby.  We were late because one of my players was injured and I needed to see the report and make changes to the team before the games started, shame on me.  I also made our fantasy league move this year's draft because it was too close to my due date LOL! (and thank god I did because Munchkin was born on the original date).

So now that football has been on ever since Munchkin was born, he lights up when it comes on TV.  Again at the baby shower, there were cartoons on for all the little kids. Munchkin simply glanced at the TV once in a while and then chose to occupy himself with staring at his hands and napping.  Then after the guests started clearing out we were able to put the games on, and what do you know, Munchkin's eyes lit up and he was glued to the TV!  Boy the cycle continues huh?!

So now you all know why there generally aren't any posts or activity from me on Sundays ;)

  1. LOL! I'm definitely American at heart because I knew you meant American football. I totally understand the obsession with a sport, though and I hope my kids get that from me...about soccer anyway. ;)

  2. Oh, that is so cute about Munchkin! <3 You talking about the Vikings reminds me of How I Met Your Mother. I don't know if you watch the show or not but one of the main characters is a Vikings fan. ;)

  3. Yeah football! I kind of watched it when I was growing up, but what really got me into it was going to a Giants game with my stepdad (a HUGE Giants fan) for his 50th birthday 3 years ago. A stadium experience is amazing in the NFL. I've been to tons of major league baseball games, but they didn't hold a candle to this. So now, football is a staple in our house every Sunday.
    Go GIANTS!! :)

    1. Oh yea, seeing it at the stadium is a huge difference from watching it on TV! I even go with my Hubby and his guy friends to Patriots games, so much fun!! I am glad you found the love of football!
