Review of Warprize by Elizabeth Vaughan

Synopsis from Goodreads: "Xylara is the Daughter of the Warrior King, Xyron. With her father dead and her incompetent half-brother on the throne, the kingdom is in danger of falling to the warring Firelanders.

Before she was old enough for a marriage-of-alliance, Xylara was trained as a healer. She can't usurp her brother or negotiate a peace--but she can heal the brave ones injured in battle.

But not only her countrymen are wounded, and Xylara's conscience won't let Firelander warriors die when she can do something to save them. She learns their language and their customs and tries to make them as comfortable as possible, despite their prisoner-of-war status.

She never expects that these deeds, done in good faith, would lead to the handsome and mysterious Firelander Warlord demanding her in exchange for a cease-fire. Xylara knows must trade the life she has always known for the well-being of her people, and so she becomes...

The Warprize."

My Review: Fantastic Book! I picked this one up at the book store and on the front cover was a quote from Anne McCaffrey stating "Possibly the best romantic fantasy I have ever read." So honestly how can you pass up advise like that?! So I started reading it right away and was quickly sucked into the book. I love the characters, the strong, selfless and loved Lara and the handsome, brave and intelligent Warlord Kier! Even the subcharacters were fantastic!! I loved Jorden and Simus and Marcus, the interplay between them all was smooth and believable. The story line pulled you in and if you were paying attention left an additional plot line to continue in the next book. It was impossible to put this one down!

My Rating: I have to give this book Four Paws and a Stump Wag! It was fantastic and I urge other to read it! It is an adult fantasy romance but nothing too risque.

  3. Sounds interesting. High fantasy is still relatively new to me. I need to explore it more. I like that the characters were done well here - even the sub-characters.

  4. Alison, high fantasy is definitely not for everyone, but I find it a great escape from the stresses of today's world. This is a great one to start with though, its a fast easy read and very absorbing, especially the characters!
