Book Club Review of Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

Synposis: "In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.

Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister's place in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before—and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that will weigh survival against humanity and life against love."

My Review: Well I read The Hunger Games again for March book club and for a little refresher before the movie comes out. Honestly, it was just as exciting the second time around, even though I knew what was going to happen. Another book blogger I follow, Sunny Reads, mentioned the first person narration and not normally liking it but not minding it. I tried to pay attention to that this time and really I don't think I noticed it the first time and completely forgot about it this time around too because the story was just so good! I can't urge people enough, if you haven't read the book yet, please do so!! Now just to see the movie, which I am hoping they don't ruin the pictures I have in my head, but the music that I have heard so far sounds very promising!!

My Rating: As with the first time I read the Hunger Games it was fantastic and I have to give it a Four Paws and Stump Wag rating.

Rhodie Reader Thoughts:  Thankfully it was a month when on regular book club member and a new member were able to come.  Everyone loved the book! The new member was worried at the beginning of the week when she hadn't started it that she wouldn't be done in time, but she made it with time to spare.  We discussed the fact that it was in first person narration and though none of us are a fans of it, we didn't mind it in this book. Of course we all loved Katniss and her will for survival, it was a toss up though for Peeta and Gail.  We also went on to discuss the movie trailers, we noted that it seemed like in some of them Katniss' hair doesn't seem quite right, but such a minor detail.  We are all eager to see the movie next weekend!

  1. So excited! I must be one of the weird ones because I just don't like reading books in third person for the most part. I kinda wish I'd have read it earlier so that I could reread it before the movie. It is pretty fresh on my mind though, so that will be good. :)

    1. Really?! Pretty much everyone I have talked to would rather have 3rd person. I have tried to write in 1st just to try it and it was an epic failure, guess it just isn't my thing.

I think whether it is fresh or not the movie will still be awesome. We have our tickets for Saturday at noon! Can't wait!
